Reasons for and aims of the project
Importance of functioning ecosystems, health, sustainability, social responsibility, management needed to happen – repair or remove, improve connectivity between north and south side of city, house 100,000 small businesses, centre of Seoul, 5.8 km
Work carried out
22 bridges – 12 pedestrian – 10 cars and pedestrian, rapid boss lanes, loading and unloading systems, 40 cm depth of river restored, water treated so not polluted, central historical zone – public availability, green space
Attitudes and contributions of parties
restoring the river biding by major, importance to make priority, removing highway, increase traffic congestion and chaos, local businesses saw project as threat, to neighbourhood, provide extra parking, reduce parking fees, improve loading and unloading bays/systems
Evaluation of project
Restoration popular with residence and visitors and because of this has become a tourist attraction, 18.1 visitors by the end of 2008, museum, economic sustainability, traffic – speed slowed throughout the city by 12.3%, subway and bus usage increase, environment – stream habitat plants animal species reappeared,
