A
The phenomenon of urban areas being warmer than rural areas

What are urban heat islands?
A
Urban areas with higher air temperatures than the surrounding rural areas, e.g. London

A
Industrial areas
Most densely built up areas, e.g. CBD

What are temperature sinks?
A
Pockets of cool air above parks and bodies of water (rivers and ponds)

A
Areas within the city with the same land use (industry) generally have the same temperature

What are temperature cliffs?
A
Rapid changes in temperature when land use changes, e.g. from inner city housing to CBD high rise buildings
