What are 4 purposes of the scanning examination?
- Identify areas of involvement if patient cannot delineate.
- Eliminate confusing or conflicting information provided by patient/client
- Assist in delineating the source of the problem or complaint to a single area or region.
- Rule out referred pain or symptoms from another body system or region
How many minutes for an initial visit?
45 minutes
How many minutes for History/Review of Systems?
10 minutes.
How many minutes to examine and evaluate the patient?
20 minutes total
In the 20 minutes to examine and evaluate patient, how many minutes for system review of UQ or LQ scan?
7-8 minutes
12 minutes for other tests, measures and findings.

Can find regional interdependence
What is checked for in a skin integrity exam?
Edema
Bruising
Areas of Redness
Temperature changes
In the UQ scan, what movements are performed in the functional movement assessment?
Hands behind back
Hands behind neck
Comb hair with both hands (supination)
Bring cup to mouth (pronation)
What is assessed in cervical spine UQ scanning?
flexion, extension, lateral flexion, rotation
BOTH SIDES FOR SPINE
What is assessed in shoulder UQ scanning?
Flexion, abduction, hyperextension, rotation (internal/external), Extension
What is assessed in elbow UQ scanning?
Flexion, Extension
What is assessed in wrist UQ scanning?
Extension, Flexion, Radial Deviation, Ulnar Deviation
If patient has FULL ROM and is pain/symptom free what is performed?
OVERPRESSURE
Cervical Spine flexion
One hand on chest, one on back of head.
Check for pain.
Apply over pressure.
