s/s:
- located in pharynx generally
- swollen, red throat
- tonsils my be inflamed
- low grade fever
- malaise
- fatigue
- lymph node involvement possible
pharyngitis
s/s:
- sore throat
- swollen tonsils/adenoids
- redness
- inflammation, tonsils possibly touching
- difficulty swallowing
- snoring
tonsilitis & adenoiditis
chronic management for tonsilitis/adenoiditis
tonsillectomy
recurrent episodes of upper airway obstruction & reduction of ventilation
obstructive sleep apnea
s/s:
- snoring
- sleepiness
- s/o or spouse reports of apnea/symptom episodes
obstructive sleep apnea
non-invasive tx sleep apnea
wt loss, alcohol avoidance, no sleeping on back
invasive tx sleep apnea
CPAP
risk factors for sleep apnea
- male gender
- HTN
- postmenopausal woman
- age
- obesity
