Upper Limb Muscles Flashcards
What is the origin of the coracobrachialis?
Coracoid process of scapula
What is the insertion of the coracobrachialis muscle?
Upper one third of the frontal humerus
What is the action of the coracobrachialis muscle?
Flexes and addicts the arm at the shoulder
What innervates the corocobrachialis muscle?
Musculocutaneous nerve
What is the origin of the deltoid muscle?
Lateral third of clavicle, surface of acromion and spine of scapula
What is the insertion of the deltoid muscle?
Deltoid tuberosity of the humerus
What is the innervation of the deltoid muscle?
Axillary nerve
What is the action of the deltoid tuberosity?
Abduction, flexion, internal rotation/external rotation
What is the origin of the pectoralis major muscle?
Medial half of the clavicle, manubrium, upper half of sternum and aponeurosis of the external abdominal oblique muscle
What is the insertion of the pectoralis major muscle?
Crest of the greater tubercle of the humerus
What is the innervation of the pactoralis major muscle?
Medial and lateral pectoral nerves
What is the primary action of the pectoralis major muscle?
Abduction of the arm at the shoulder
What is the origin of the petoralis minor muscle?
3rd to 5th ribs
What is the insertion of the pectoralis minor muscle?
Coracoid process of the scapula
What is the innervation of the pectoralis minor muscle?
Medial and lateral pectoral nerves
What are the actions of the pectoralis minor muscle?
Pulls the scapula medially, forwards and downwards. Aids in respiration
What is the origin of the serratus anterior muscle?
Superior - 1st and 2nd ribs
Intermediate - 2nd and 3rd ribs
Inferior - 4th and 9th ribs
What is the insertion of the serratus anterior muscle?
Medial margin of the costal surface of the scapula
What is the innervation of the serratus anterior muscle?
Long thoracic nerve and the brachial plexus
