Upper limb Flashcards
What is the acromioclavicular joint?
Also known as the AC joint, this is made up of the clavicle and the scapula.
What is the humeroulnar joint?
Commonly know as the elbow.
This is made of the humerous and the ulna.
What is the radiocarpal joint?
Commonly known as the wrist.
Formed by an articulation between the radius and the carpal bones.
How many phalanges does each digit have?
The thumb has two.
All other fingers have three.
How are the phalanges and metacarpals for each digit distinguish from each other?
They are numbered 1 to 5.
Starting with the thumb as number 1.
Compare the basic structure and position of the radius and the ulna.
The ulna is located medially to the radius.
The ulna is wider proximally.
The radius is wider distally.
What parts of the body are involved in the acromioclavicular articulation?
Where the acromial facet on the clavical joins to the acromium on the scapula.
What parts of the body are involved in the sternoclavicular articulation?
The sternal facet on the clavicle articulates with the sternum.
What parts of the body are involved in the scapular thoracic articulation?
The lateral border of the scapula joins to the ribs.
What parts of the body are involved in the glenohumeral articulation?
The glenoid fossa on the scapula joins to the head of the humerous.
What is important about the glenoid fossa?
The glenoid fossa is shallow so the joint is less stable as less fixed within the fossa. This increases the flexibility of the shoulder joint.
How many joints make up the shoulder?
Four.
Name the four joints that make up the shoulder.
Sternoclavicular articulation
Acromioclavicular articulation.
Scapular thoracic articulation
Glenohumeral articulation.
What does the pectoral girdle compose of?
The scapula and the clavicle.
Name the black bone
Clavicle
