Q

what is the diffrenece between exocrine glands and endocrine glands?

A

Exocrine glands secrete substances into a ductal system to an epithelial surface, endocrine glands secrete products directly into the bloodstream.

16
Q

Where does the submandibular gland empty?

A

The submandibular gland empties into the sublingual papilla via the submandibual duct.

17
Q

where does the sublingual gland empty?

A

The sublingual gland empties into mutiple ducts on an elevated crest on either side on the sublingual papila.

18
Q

what is the role of the teeth?

A

The role opf the teeth is to break down food into smaller chunks.

19
Q

How many tooths do we have?

A

We have up to 32 tooths but its commonly forund to be 28 tooths in some people.

20
Q

why is there a variation in the number of teeth between people?

A

People have 28 teeth because some peoples molars dont come through or they have teeth extractions.

21
Q

name the teeth we have

A

We have 2 incisors
1 cainine
2 pre molars
3 molars

22
Q

main nerves that line the teeth?

A

nerves that are found in the teeth are suprlied by the trigeminal nerve CN V.
The triegminal nerev then splits into the maxilary and the mandibular nerve.
the mandibular nerve suplies the nerves of the bottom of the mouth via the inferior alveolar. the maxilary supplies the nerves of the top of the mouth via the superior alveolar.

23
Q

what artery supplies the mouth with blood?

A

The maxilary artery braches off the external carotid artery.

It supplies the mandibular and maxilary part of the teeth with blood but via different branches.

24
Q

what branch of the maxillary artery supplies the mandibular?

A

The inferior alveloar artery

25
Q

what branch of the maxilary suplies the maxilary teeth?

A

The prosterior and anterior superior alveolar artery.

26
Q

what is mastification?

A

Mastifucation is the process of chewing.

27
Q

what muscles and structures are involved in masification?

A

The temporalis muscle
Condyle of the temporomandibular joint
lateral and medial pteygoid muscle
masseter muscle

28
Q

what muscles make up the tounge?

A

The intrinsic muscles and the extrinsic muscles make up the tounge.

29
Q

what are the extrinsic mucles of the tounge

A

the genoglossus
the hyloglossus
the styloglossus
the palatoglossus

30
Q

what does the genoglossal muscle link to?

A

the genoglossus links to the spikes of the manibular then to the tounge

31
Q

what does the hyloglossus link to and its function ?

A

The hyloglossus links to the hyoid bone and then to the tounge. its function is to compress the tounge in contraction.

32
Q

what does the styloglossus link to and its function?

A

it attches to the styloid process and then to the tounge. its forms the trough of the tounge.

33
Q

what is palatoglossus function?

A

the palatoglossus forms the palatoglossal fold. this helps in with swallowing as it pushes food down.
