Upper: Bony Landmarks Flashcards
Acromion
Point to top of shoulder
Coracoid process of the scapula
Protract the scapula and go under the lateral clavicle
Inferior angle of the scapula
Bring arm behind back, best in prone position.
Infraspinous fossa of the scapula
Find the spine and go inferior
Lateral border of the scapula
Bring arm behind back, best in prone position.
Medial border of the scapula
Bring arm behind back, best in prone position.
Spine of the scapula
Bring arm behind back, best in prone position. Palpate across the ridge of bone.
Superior angle of the scapula
Bring arm behind back, best in prone position. Reach over the traps and push the scapula up and down from the inferior angle to feel the bone moving.
Supraspinous fossa of the scapula
Find the spine of scapula and go superior
Bicipetal/intertubercular groove
Press fingers on the greater tubercle (lateral). Laterally rotate the shoulder while pressing to locate the tendon of biceps brachii and the groove.
Deltoid tuberosity
Engage the deltoid by asking the partner to press the side of their elbow into your arm and find the midpoint of the humerus (might be slightly below)
Greater tubercle of the humerus
Most lateral when shoulder is fully laterally rotated
Lateral epicondyle of the humerus
Flex the elbow to locate easier
Lateral supracondylar ridge of the humerus
Go above the lateral epicondyle
Lesser tubercle of the humerus
Laterally rotate the shoulder and go medial from the bicipital groove
