Universal Treatment Algorithm Flashcards
What are the 3 interventions in CPR as per the Universal Treatment Algorithm?
Chest compressions - quality with minimal interruptions
Defibrillation - if rhythm is VF or pulseless VT
Oxygenation - oxygenation and ventilation of the lungs via a BVM + OPA until airway is secured - ET or LMA
What is the purpose of BLS?
To help maintain myocardial and cerebral oxygenation until ALS personnel and equipment is available
What are the two types of rhythms in a cardiac arrest?
Shockable: VF and pulseless VT
Non-shockable: not for defib- a systole and all other rhythms
Each cycle of CPR consists of
5 sets of 30:2 - equally approx 2 min
How to confirm airway placement and monitor adequacy of CPR?
Et CO2
When should adrenaline be administered? (shockable rhythms)
After 2nd shock
Then after every 2nd cycle (approx 4 mins)
When should adrenaline be administered? (Non-shockable)
Immediately post IV/IO access obtained
Then every 2nd cycle
What is amiodarone?
Anti-arrhythmic
When do we consider amiodarone? And dosage?
300mg - considered after 3rd shock
2nd dose 150mg after 5th shock
