Monotheism
A religion where one believes in only one God, such as Christianity, Judaism, and
Islam.
Polytheism
A religion where one believes in multiple gods and/or goddesses, such as Hinduism.
Deism
The belief that God was the creator of the universe but has no further interest in it
Divine Revelation
God’s free gift of self communication by which he makes known the mystery
of his divine plan.
Covenant
The open ended contract of love between humans and God. Jesus’s Death and
Resurrection secured God’s new covenant/testament of love for all time.
Yahweh
“I am,” or, “I am who I am,” which is a name for God in Hebrew. Acknowledges God’s Mystery.
Dogma
A central truth of Revelation that Catholics obliged to believe.
Magisterium
The teaching authority God has given to the Church, comprised of the Pope and Bishops teaching with him.
Virtue
A habitual and strong desire to do good.
Theological Virtues
Gifts from God (faith, hope, and charity)
Saint
A holy and holy person.
Religion
The belief and worship of a superhuman power or powers, especially a God or gods.
