What does it mean to be ‘Canadian’
Canadian values; Equality, respect for cultural diversity, freedom, peace and law & order
Immigration: Push/ Pull
Push/Pull; Influences that compel people to migrate from place to another
Push: war, political problems, lack of work, persecution, famine
Pull: peace, good environment, abundant food, jobs and rights and freedom
Immigration: Immigration & Refugee Protection Act (Define, classes and requires);
Law that controls immigration in Canada
The 3 basic classes are the family class(relative is a citizen), refugee class(desire to escape war or persecution) and the independent class(come in due to money, skills or an undependable job)
Applicants must pay a fee, have a medical exam, have enough money to pay for 6 months of living expenses and a police certificate their country of origin.

Citizenship: Criteria for Naturalization
Must be 18+ years old or apply with parent
Must be a permanent resident
Must have lived in Canada for 3 of the last 4 years
Must be able to speak English or French
Must have knowledge of Canada and Right & Freedom
Citizenship: Rights and Responsibility
Rights: Outlined in the Charter of Rights 7 Freedom. Includes domestic rights like the right to vote and run for candidate, and mobility rights.
Responsibility: To uphold Canadian values(like pluralism), to elect govn’t and to serve as a jury member
Cituzenship: What does a good citizen do
Promote Canadian values like pluralism, respect the law and respect their environmental responsibility
Maintaining Identity: Mass media/pop culture
Mass media transmit pop culture messages through images, stories and advertisement
