Medically, any substance that the body can take in and assimilate that will enable it to stay alive and to grow. It is the carrier of nourishment.
Food
Officially defined by the World Health Organization, a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being not merely the absensce of disease or infirmity.
Health
Refers to whatever you eat and drink each day. Thus, it includes the normal diet you consume.
Diet
The “science of food, the nutrients and other substances therein, their action, interaction and balance in relation to health and disease, and the process by which the organism ingests, absorbs, transports, utilizes and excreted food substances”
Nutrition
Is the integration, application and communication of practice principles derived from food, nutrition, social, business and basic sciences, to achieve and maintain optimal nutrition status of individuals and groups
Dietetics
Is a chemical component needed by the body. They provide energy, serve as building material, help maintain or repair body parts, and support growth.
Nutrient
A person who is trained in the science of nutrition and dietitics, provide food and nutrition services to individuals and groups in a variety of settings.
Dietitian
The condition of the body in those respects influenced the diet; the levels of nutrients in the body and the ability of those levels to maintain normal metabolic integrity.
Nutritional Status
Any condition caused by excess or deficient food energy or nutrient intake or by an imbalance of nutrients..
Malnutrition
The amount of various substances in food needed by an organism to sustain healthy life.
Dietary Requirement
The amount of essential nutrient as a vitamin or mineral that has been established as adequate to meet the average nutritional needs of most healtht persons.
Dietary Allowance
Daily nutrient intake level that meets the median or average requirement.
Estimated Average Requirement (EAR)
