Macronutrients UNIT II Flashcards
Contain carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen but has less oxygen to it.
Lipids
Are neutral fats
Simple lipids
Are neutral fats plus some other components.
Compound lipids
Are neutral fats containing phosphoric acid and nitrogenous base.
Phospholipid
Refers to complexes of lipid with protein.
Lipoprotein
Pertain to carbohydrate-containing lipids
Mucolipids
Are obtained by hydrolysis or enzymatic breakdown of simple and compound lipids.
Derived lipids
Are acids that occur in a natural triglyceride.
Fatty acids
Are lipid substanced that contain sterols.
Steroids
Fatty acids with no double bonds.
Saturated fatty acid
Are fatty acids with double bonds.
Unsaturated fatty acid
Refers to fatty acids composed of 4 or less carbon atoms.
Short chain
Fatty acids are composed of 6-12 carbons.
Medium Chain
Composed of 14 carbons or more and needs transporters to enter the mitochondrium.
Long chain
Is a derivative of arachidonic fatty acid. It promotes arterial dilation and contractility of the heart.
Linoleic (omega 6) fatty acid
