Unit Conversions And Help With Math Chap 03-1Test 1 Flashcards
Directly Proportional means:
Two quantities increase or decrease together at a constant ratio
Example: an increase in A causes an increase in B, even if B is being multiplied by some factor
Exponentially Proportional means:
A variable is squared or cubed- a small change in that variable will cause a big change in the other
Google Definition:
the rate of change of a quantity is directly proportional to the quantity itself.
Essentially; the faster something is changing, the larger its current value is
Directly Related means:
An increase in A caused the same kind of change, an increase, in B, but it is not specified by how much
(could be either proportional or exponential)
Inversely / Indirectly Proportional:
Two variables change by exactly the same magnitude, but in opposite directions.
If one doubles, the other must be cut in half
- When one quantity increases, the other decreases or optionally and vice versa.
Essentially; the two quantities behave in opposite directions
Converting a fraction to a decimal, what do you do?
divide the numerator (top #) by the denominator (bottom #)
2/5= 0.4
Converting a decimal to a percentage:
Move the decimal point two places to the right
0.756 = 75.6 %
Converting a percentage to a decimal:
Move the decimal point two places to the left
32.8% =0.328
Order of Operations
PEMDAS
- Parentheses ( )
- Exponents
- Multiplications and Division’s
- Additions and Subtractions
Factoring:
When two numbers are added or subtracted within parentheses, the whole set is multiplied by another factor, multiply each number by the factor and drop the parentheses
