Q

What is the Dermal Tiasue

A
  • Outer layer of cells that covers all non-woody plants
  • Important for:
    •Gas exchange
•Water and mineral uptake from soil

Q

What is the Ground Tissue

A
  • Majority of the plant (everything that is not the other two types of tissue)
    •Layer beneath the epidermis.
    •Functions vary depending on location
    •Stem – strength and support
•Roots – food and water storage
    •Leaves – where photosynthesis occurs

Q

What conditions affect the guards cells?

A

Conditions that affect whether stomata are open or closed:
•Temperature – high temperatures  close to reduce water loss (and vice versa)
•Humidity – decreases water loss
•Wind – increases water loss
•Amount of Solar Radiation – stomata open as photosynthesis occurs faster

Q

What cells make up the phloem?

A
  • Sieve tube cells (alive)
  • They do not have a nucleus but rather connected to small nucleated companion cells that direct their activities.
