Unit 9 : Joints Flashcards
1
Q
Joints
A
The study of Joints is called Arthrology
Kinesiology is the study of Musculoskeletal Movement
2
Q
Joins Classification
A
There are 2 Classification of Joints:
- How the Bones are Joined, this includes:
- Fibrous
- Cartilaginous
- Bony and Synovial Joints
- How the Bones Move
3
Q
Type of Joins
A
There are 3 types of Joint Movements:
- No Movement = Syn-Ar-Throsis
- Slightly = Am-phi-ar-Throsis
- Freely = Di-ar-throsis
(This includes all Synovial Joints)
4
Q
Synarthrosis
A
This joint has no movement and can be found:
- Sutures
- Gomphosis ( a joint that binds teeth to teeth sockets in the maxillary bone and mandible.
- Syn.chon.drosis ( composed entirely of hyaline cartilage found in the Epiphyseal plate of long bones)
5
Q
Amphiarthrosis
A
Amphiarthrosis allow for slight movements of joints:
-
Syndesmosis Joint
- (Distal Tibiofibular Joint) / Articulation of Tibia and Fibula
-
Symphyses Joint - are always in the midline of the body
- Pubic symphyses
- Intervertebral disc
6
Q
Diarthrosis
A
- Diarthrosis Joints are freely moveable.
- Joints are moveable because of the space between bones called the Synovial Cavity
- Contains Articular Capsule and an Articular Cartilage
-
Articular capsule is composed of two layers:
- The outer fibrous capsule
- The Inner Synovial Membrame (provides lubrication and synovial fluid to joints)
-
Articular Cartilage
- Which is Hyaline cartilage covering the joint surfaces
