stagnant economic growth and high inflation
Stagflation
produced high federal deficits and rising inflation, increased automation replaced many workers, and the once thriving steel, iron, and coal industries declined

wanted the government out of the private sector. led the charge on reducing regulations on the auto industry by lowering standards of car emissions and safety regulations
