Population
Set of entities from which information is intended to be gleaned
Sample
Material or entity that is taken from a larger group (population), that is used to represent the larger group. A subset of the population

The process by which a subset is taken from the population that would be use for study
Sample Preparation
This is the process by which samples are prepared for analysis. This is done to achieve compatibility with instrument
Forensic Toxicologist can obtain specimen form
- Botanical
- Industrial/Environmental
- Related materials (e.g. scene residue)
- Body components (Biological specimen)
Where can blood be obtained?
Blood can be obtained ante-mortem and postmortem preparations, as well as spatters.
Urine’s Composition
- water - 95 %
- Other major and common constituents are sodium - 0.4%, ammonia - 0.05 %, phosphates - 0.6 %, urea - 2 %, sulfate - 0.2 % and creatine,
- Normally, soluble substances are excreted in the urine.
- Contains high concentrations of drugs and metabolites
Hair’s Composition
- 65-95%protein,
- 1-9% lipid, trace elements, polysaccharides and water
- Minute amounts of drugs are entrapped in the cortex
