Addresses structural issues in criminal justice systems towards minorities such as racial profiling, police brutality, mass incarceration, and recidivism
Marginalization
To ostracize a person, group, or concept as insignificant or peripheral
Cancel Culture
A social environment in which publicly boycotting or withdrawing support for people, organizations, for promoting socially unacceptable beliefs
Cancel Speech
Publicly boycotting or withdrawing support for people for promoting socially unacceptable language
Gentrification
A poor urban area is changed by wealthier people moving in, improving housing, and attracting new businesses, typically displacing current inhabitants in the process
Blaxploitation
Exploitation of black people, especially with regard to stereotyped roles in movies
Redlining
The illegal practice of refusing to offer credit or insurance in a particular community on a discriminatory basis (as because of the race or ethnicity of its residents)
Watts Riots
A series of violent confrontations between Los Angeles police and residents of Watts a predominantly African American neighborhood of South-Central Los Angeles that began in August 1965. The immediate cause of the riots was the arrest of an African American man, Marquette Frye, by a white California Highway Patrol officer on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and the use of excessive force that was used to subdue him
Rodney King
He was beaten harshly by Los Angeles police officers during a traffic stop in March 1991, which was video tapped and aired on the national news
OJ Simpson Case
A criminal trial in Los Angles in which O. J. Simpson was tried and acquitted for the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman, that played out on national television
Defund Police
To move funding away from police departments and into community resources such as mental health experts, housing, and social workers
