Algorithm
A mathematical set of rules specifying how a group of data behaves. Social media uses algorithms to sort posts to a user’s feed based on relevancy.
Cancel Culture
The mass withdrawal of support for celebrities or public figures who have done things that are not socially acceptable.
Fads
An intense and widely shared enthusiasm for something, often short lived. A craze.
Censorship
The suppression or prohibition of books, films, news etc. that are considered obscene, politically unacceptable or a threat to security.
Filter Bubble
A situation in which an internet user encounters only information and opinions that conform to and reinforce their own beliefs, often caused by algorithms.
Misinformation
False or inaccurate information, especially that which is deliberately intended to deceive.
Popular Culture
Culture based on the tastes of ordinary people rather than an educated elite.
Social Justice
Justice in terms of the distribution of wealth, opportunities and privileges in a society.
Streaming
A method of transmitting or receiving data, usually video or audio, over a computer network as a steady, continuous flow.
Woke
Alert to injustice in society, especially racial and social issues.
Youth Culture
The unique behaviors, norms and values typified by adolescents (young adults) in a larger culture.
Social Media
Websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking.
