Feminism

MeToo
A social movement calling attention to the frequency with which women and girls experience sexual assault and harassment
Masculinity
The set of behaviors and social roles associated with men and boys
Misogyny
A person who hates or discriminates against women
Sexism
Prejudice or discrimination based on one’s sex
Patriarchy
A system of society where men are the head-of-the-household and carry the most power
Toxic Masculinity
A term used to describe the negative aspects of teaching boys “manliness” or “masculinity” traits; these traits glorify dominance, homophobia, and aggression
Incel
A member of an online subculture of people who define themselves as unable to get a romantic or sexual partner
LGBTQ
An abbreviation for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer
Sex
The different biological characteristics of males and females, such as reproductive organs, chromosomes, and hormones
Gender
Socially constructed characteristics of what it means to be male or female
Gender Role
The behaviors men and women are expected to exhibit in public
Gender Indentity
A personal sense of one’s own gender
Non Binary
A term used to describe someone who does not identify as exclusively a man or a woman
