What is a psychological disorder?
pattern of behavior or experience that is distressing and painful
leads to disability or impairment in important life domains
-> increased risk of further suffering
What is abnormal?
statistical definition
definition based on what society tolerates
psychological definition based on subjective feelings, thoughts and behaviors
Dimensional model of personality disorders
difference between normal and abnormal is not qualitative but a question of degree
-> allows person to present peaks in traits corresponding to multiple disorders
