Unit 6: Ultrasound Flashcards
Primary use?
- Decreasing edema
- Facilitate wound healing
Negative vs Positive Polarity?
Positive: Formation of granulation tissue; clot formation around wound.
Negative: Dissolves blood clots; increases inflammatory
Some literature recommends starting with Negative polarity 1st.
During inflammatory stage of wound healing, what is the appropriate treatment?
- Immobilize or use Static Orthoses.
– Protects healing wounds from further damage while maintaining healing-position.
Client just had a Fasciectomy procedure, what is the appropriate treatment?
A Dupuytren’s Fasciectomy; a static orthosis used to maintain digit extension.
Need to Lengthen Tissue, what do you use?
Mobilization Orthoses–does not cause tearing or inflammation of structures.
Used for long-durations during Proliferative & Remodeling phases of wound healing.
NOT to be used until 6 Weeks post-injury when wound is at 60% tensile strength.
*90º angle of ROM to not damage joint or cartilage!
