Classroom Environment:
the physical organization and arrangement of the classroom to present a print rich, functional, and aesthetically appealing learning environment.
Word Workstation:
a classroom learning space or center where students focus their activity on learning how to read and spell words.
Listening Comprehension Station:
a classroom learning space or center where students focus their activity on listening to books or other texts read aloud and respond by answering questions or completing other activities to demonstrate comprehension.
Flexible Grouping:
temporary groups of students based on their level of independence and their personal strengths and weaknesses as learners.
Daily Lesson Plans:
structured and written organizational plans for providing instruction on a daily basis.
Literacy Curriculum:
a detailed description of the scope and sequence of literary skills and concepts to be taught by teacher and learned by students over a specific period of time.
Interactive Read Alouds:
a teacher reads aloud with expression and discusses a text or book with a group of students.
Shared Reading / Shared Book Experience:
is designed to be used with very young readers to recreate the lap reading experience with a whole classroom where teachers can model how readers look, figure out, and operate on print.
Language Experience Approach(LEA):
a teaching approach in which a teacher takes students dictations to create personalized reading materials from student experiences.
Five Block Reading/Writing Essentials Model:
a framework for scheduling and focusing daily reading and writing instruction so that all children receive daily in the five essential components of early reading instruction: phonemic awareness, phonics fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension strategies.
