Unit 6 Flashcards
UNIT 6
Zero Conditional
Zero Conditional
Conditional sentences have two parts: the conditional part (the IF clause) and then the main clause.
We use the zero conditional to talk about general truths or to describe facts. We use the present simple in both parts of the sentence
Zero conditional–When clauses
We can use instead of ‘IF’ to talk about a particular situations
Eg: When road conditions are dangerous, you should drive carefully (= a partcular situation, compared to when the road condition aren’t dangerous)
if the road condition are dangerous tonight, you should drive carefully (=a possible situation that may happen)
We can use or in most zero conditional sentences whit no difference in meaning
Eg: If/When you heat ice, it meals
RELATIVE PRONOUNS
WHO
WHICH
THAT
We use relative pronouns to connect two sentences
We use relative clauses to say wich person, place or thing we are talking about.
To introduce relative clause, we use relative pronouns.
We use:
Who or That to talk about people
Wich or That to talk about animals or things
Eg: The Amur leopard and the Siberian tiger are animals That have beautiful fur.
But it’s also because of Wich are destroying their habitat.
There are people That hunt them for their skins.
There are a lot of people Who want to wear leopard skin coats.
FIRST CONDITIONAL
We use the first conditional to describe possible situations and a possible result=in the present or future.
We use the present simple in the If clause and will futur in the main clause.
If+present simple+will/won’t
Eg: If it rains a lot tomorrow, there will be floods
What will happen if we don´t stop eating fish?-If we don’t stop eating fish, there won’t be any left in the sea.
Eg: If sea levels rise, villages on the coast will be under water.(Not if sea levels will rise….)
