What is a gerund?

A

– A gerund is a “ing” form of a verb that serves the same purpose as a noun.

Gerunds can function as direct / indirect objects, subjects, objects of prepositions and predicate nouns.

E.g.: “Running is a great way to exercise”.

What is an infinitive?

A

– The infinitive form of the verb is when it is in basic form.
E.g.: to run, to think, to sit, etc.

Gerunds

A

Gerunds can function as direct / indirect objects, subjects, objects of prepositions and predicate nouns.

  • Some gerunds are more complex than others. We now know what gerunds are, but sometimes a verb will come before a gerund and then also difference in the meaning
