A

MAINE enters as a free state

MISSOURI enters as a slave state
36 ‘30 line established:- Any new state north of that line would be a free state. South of the line would be a slave state.

Kansas-Nebraska Act

A
  1. This law allowed the people of Kansas and Nebraska to decide if they wanted slavery or not. This is called (2 words): KANSAS-NEBRASKA ACT. Allowing people to choose for themselves is called Popular Sovereignty.
  2. As a result, violence erupted in Kansas. This was called (2 words): BLEEDING KANSAS
  3. This repealed (took away) the Missouri Compromise

A

DRED SCOTT WAS A SLAVE WHO WENT TO NORTHERN STATES WITH HIS MASTER
UPON RETURNING TO THE SOUTH, HE SUED FOR HIS FREEDOM CLAIMING THAT SINCE HE WAS IN A FREE STATE, THEN HE SHOULD ALSO BE FREE
THE SUPREME COURT RULED THAT DRED SCOTT HAD NO LEGAL BASIS TO EVEN BRING THE CASE. THEY SAID THAT HE WAS CONSIDERED PROPERTY, NOT A PERSON. THEREFORE HE COULD NEVER BE FREE.
