Stereotype
Simplified beliefs or ideas about a group of people, often shared by society (cognitive)
Prejudice
Negative judgement or feelings about a person or group without enough information (affective)
Discrimination
Unfair treatment of people based on their group or characteristics (behavior)
Illusory Correlation
Relating two events even if they are in no way connected
Group homogeneity
The belief that all members of a group are the same and lack indiviuality
Pygmalion Effect
The idea that expectations about someone can influence their behavior to match those expectations
Selective attention
Focusing only on information that confirms existing beliefs while ignoring other details
Deferred learning
Adopting stereotypes from others, like parents or the media, without direct experience
Implicit Association Test (IAT)
A test that measures unconscious biases and stereotypes
Bookkeeping
Gradual change of a stereotype (or schema) with consistent evidence that challenges it
Conversion
Sudden change in a stereotype (or schema) due to dramatic disconfirming evidence
Subtyping
Creating a smaller category within a stereotype to handle exceptions
