Circadian Rhythm
What is REM sleep?
Rapid eye movement sleep; a recurring sleep stage during which vivid dreams commonly occur
Alpha Waves
The relatively slow brain waves of a relaxed, awake state
Hallucinations
False sensory experiences, such as seeing something in the absence of an external visual stimulus
Delta Waves
The slowest recorded brain waves in humans that are associated with the deepest levels of relaxation and restoration
Insomnia
A recurring problem in falling or staying asleep
Narcolepsy
Characterized by uncontrollable sleep attacks. The sufferer May laps directly into REM sleep, often at inopportune times.
Sleep apnea
Characterized by temporary cessations of breathing during sleep and repeated momentary awakenings.
Night terrors
Characterized by high arousal and an appearance of being terrified.
What is the difference between nightmares and night terrors?
Unlike nightmares, night terrors occur during stage 4 sleep, within 2 or 3 hours of falling asleep.

Hypnosis
A social interaction in which one person suggests to another that certain perceptions, feelings, or behaviors will spontaneously occur.
Posthypnotic suggestion
A suggestion made during a hypnosis session to be carried out after the subject is no longer hypnotized. It has helped alleviate headaches, asthma, and stress related skin disorders. Hypnosis, especially seems to help obesity, but not so much drug or alcohol abuse.
