-Adults may earn more money so can afford more expensive sports like golf
-adults may have less time to participate due to work commitments and therefore choose sports like squash that are played over a limited time period
What is commercialisation
Involves individuals, organisations and companies buying and selling sporting goods and services with a focus on profit

Increased publicity to a wider audience
Status increased by being linked to success
Increased sales of their products

Financial support in addition to admission fees
Reaches wider audience
Attracts best players to that league

Free clothing and equipment
Payment for wearing sponsors clothing
Secure income

Increased opportunity to watch live sports
Cheaper access to watch live sports
Viewing experience enhanced due to technology

Negative events (drug use, cheating ) may affect your reputation
Dependant upon success of athlete or team,
Small sponsors might struggle to compete against big brands
Disadvantages of commercialisation on sports
-Dates, times, clothing may be changed to suit sponsor
-Some sponsors may not be suitable for sport image (gambling, fast food)
-Increases the gap between representation of smaller sports or clubs
Disadvantages of commercialisation on players
-May be tied to a contract which includes appearances at sponsors events
-increased pressure to win, may lead to deviance
-lower profile players struggle to get as big sponsors
