Unit 5 Pelvis Flashcards
rectus abdominus origin
pubic symphysis and pubic crest
rectus abdominus insertion
xiphoid process and 5th to 7th costal cartilages
rectus abdominus nerves
thoracoabdominal nerves ant rami T6- T12
rectus abdominus actions
flexes trunk (lumbar vertebrae) and compresses abdominal viscera; stabilizes and controls tilt of pelvis
internal oblique origin
thoracolumbar fascia, anterior 2/3 of iliac crest and connective tissue deep to lateral 1/3 of inguinal ligament
internal oblique insertion
inferior borders of 10-12th ribs, linea alba, and pectin pubis via falx inguinalis
internal oblique innervation
thoracoabdominal nerves T6-T12 ant rami and 1st lumbar nerves
internal oblique action
compression AND support of abdominal viscera; flexion and rotation of trunk
external oblique origin
external surfaces of 5th through 12th ribs
external oblique insertion
linea alba, pubic tubercle, and anterior 1/2 of iliac crest
external oblique innervation
thoracoabdominal nerves T7-T11 ant rami AND subcostal nerve
external oblique action
compression and support of abdominal viscera; flexion and rotation of the trunk
transversus abdominus origin
internal surfaces of 7th through 12th costal cartilages, thoracolumbar fascia, iliac crest and connective tissue deep to lateral third of inguinal ligament
trans. abd. insertion
linea alba with aponeurosis of internal oblique, pubic crest and pecten pubis via conjoint tendon
trans abd. nerve
thoracoabdominal nerves T6-T12 and 1st lumbar
trans abd. action
compression and support of abdominal viscera
quadratus lumborum origin
medial half of anterior border of 12th ribs; tips of lumbar transverse processes
QL insertion
iliolumbar L. and internal lips of iliac crest
QL innervation
anterior branches of T12, L1-L4
QL action
Extends and laterally flexes vertebral column; fixes 12th rib during inspirtation
iliacus origin
Superior two thirds of iliac fossa, ala of sacrum and anterior sacroiliac ligaments
iliacus insertion
tendon of psoas major; lesser trochanter and shaft inferior
iliacus innervation
femoral n. L2 L3 L4
iliacus action
flexes thigh and stabilizes hip joint and acts with psoas major
psoas major origin
Transverse processes of lumbar vertebrae; sides and bodies of T12- L5 vertebrae and IVD
psoas major insertion
LT of femur
psoas major innervation
anterior rami L1 L2 L3
psoas major action
Inferiorly with iliacus, flexes thigh; acting superiorly it flexes vertebral column laterally; balances the trunk; sitting it acts inferiorly to flex trunk
psoas minor origin
sides of T12- L1 vertebrae
psoas minor insertion
pectineal line, iliopectineal arch
psoas minor nerve
ant. rami L1 L2
psoas minor action
hip flexion and functional stability
