Q

What was the ruling from the Supreme Court on the Indian Removal Act?

A

In Cherokee Nation v. Georgia, the Court said in 1831 that the Cherokee Nation could not be protected from encroachment or regulations by the state of Georgia. The Cherokee had previously signed a treaty with the United States government but the Court ruled they were not a foreign state. (You are on your own.)

The next year, the Supreme Court reversed this decision in Worcester v. Georgia, stating that only the federal government had the authority to negotiate with Indigenous groups and that states could not act with that authority. (You have rights.)

Be prepared with a five sentence response on the test.

A

Consequently Jackson was a president that wanted power. As a result He moved thousands of Indigenous people to new lands. He made a very important bank be ruined. And he highered taxes on imported goods so people would buy American goods. This matters because all of these actions were wrong and not the best for our country and hurt many people that didn’t
