unit 5: culture Flashcards
name 6 elements of future houses
- sustainable designs
- high-tech
- minimalist
- building up, not out
- mixed-use communities
- smaller is better
explain building up, not out
more appartments instead of houses: less space for more housing
what are mixed-use communities?
having everything you need within a certain mile radius (grocery stores, appartments, etc.)
explain smaller is better
people already dont really feel the need to live in large spaces, no need for big houses, when smaller ones are cheaper.
what is Woke 7?
a housing possibility in the future that dangles from heavy cables, attached to enormous zeppelins:
- freedom
- no fixed address
what is weave housing?
a housing possibility in the future that’s a multi-family project with balconies that create pockets of shade
- affordability
- checked for quality
- pre-fabricated -> transported
what is reboot?
a housing possibility in the future that has an elliptical glass elevator, encircled by a stairway and has a smooth, shiny surface
- provokes discussion
- self-sufficient: supplies that home’s power
which factors have influenced the architectural designs for the future?
- climate change
- population growth
- geopolitical shifts
which housing possibility was most influenced by climate change?
Reboot was mainly influenced by climate, because the design is eco-friendly and sustainable
which housing possibility was mainly influenced by population growth?
Wolke 7 was mainly influenced by population growth: it’s mentioned how the world’s population could surpass 10 billion by 2100
what is so special about weave housing?
Weave housing is energy efficient because the building creates it’s own shade and keeps itself cool -> less energy is spent on air-conditioning.
what is the jetsonian future?
future shown by the jetsons, created in 1962 (optimistic, high tech and comfortable)
what is a jetsonian betrayal?
the Jetsons promised a future where everything would be very easy and you would even have a robot that would do what little work you had to do -> this hasn’t happened
