Flashbulb Memories
Vivid memory of a dramatic even, may occur because of strong emotional content.
Decay Theory
The passage of time causes you to forget it.
EX: The name of your first grade teacher helper.
Selective Attention
You select only certain amounts of information
EX: You see an open seat at a ball game so you go sit down without realizing that your family was sitting in the second row.
Sensory Memory
-Stored for a few seconds (short term memory)
-Come from five senses
-Stored only for as long as the sense is being stimulated.
Retroactive Interference
The old information is being tested
EX: You call your ex by your boyfriends name
Proactive Interference
The new information is being tested
EX: You type your old password into your phone
Iconic Memory
One can recall visual images for a few milliseconds after it has gone away.
Echoic Memory
Brief memory of audible sounds. Can recall and recognize words that were spoken even when they were not consciously listening.
