Unit 4 Quiz Flashcards
What is mieosis
cell division in sexually reproducing organisms
What is crossing over
homologus chromosomes pair up and exchange genetic information
What is independent assortment
homologus chromosomes pairs line up in the middle.
Interphase
The cells resting phase, the cell spends 90% of its time in this phase and it replicates DNA (creates homologous chromosomes) and grows the overall cell
Prophase 1
Nuclear membrane starts to dissolve, homologous chromosomes pair up and exchange genetic information (crossing over)
Metaphase 1
Spindle fibers attach to the centromere, homologous pairs line up in the middle through independent assortment
Anaphase 1
Spindle fibers start to pull on chromosomes (they break up and move to opposite sides of cell)
Telophase 1
Nuclear membrane starts to reform
Cytokenisis 1
The cytoplasm pinches in half
Prophase 2
Nuclear membrane starts to dissolve again, spindle fibers reform
Metaphase 2
Spindle fibers are fully formed and attach to the cetromere, genetically varied chromosome pairs line up on the equator for each cell
Anaphase 2
Spindle fibers pull chromosome pair apart, chromatids move to opposite sides of the cell (haploid)
Telophase 2
Nuclear membrane starts to form around the chromatids, the cytoplasm pinches in half, 4 haploid cells are created.
Cytokinesis 2
Different gametes are created in females VS males (males-sperm cells, spermatogenesis) (females-egg cells, Oogenesis)
What is Kline felter Syndrome
Sex chromosome disorder, trisomy or polyploidy (XXY or XXXY)
