Honors Biology Unit 2 Study: Flashcards
Photosynthesis
The process plants go through in order to make food (glucose)
Cellular Respiration
The process animals/humans go through in order to make sure that the cells in their bodies have enough energy.
What are the three cycles in cellular respiration
Glycolosis, Krebs cycle, and ETC (electron transport chain)
What are the two cycles in photosynthesis
Light reaction and calvin cycle
What does light reaction need in order to happen
Water and sunlight
What does light reaction produce
ATP and NADPH and oxygen
What does the calvin cycle need in order to function
ATP and NADPH
What does the calvin cycle produce
NADP+ ADP
Where does the calvin cycle and light reaction take place
In the thylakoids of the chloroplast
What is a granum
A stack of thylakoids
What is an enzyme
An enzyme is a substance that speeds up chemical reactions.
How does an enzyme speed up chemical reactions
By lowering the activation energy require to start the reaction.
What is the lock and key method
The lock and key method is that substrates have to fit into a perfectly designed enzyme, just like a designed key would have to fit into a certain lock. Different types of substrates cannot go into different types of enzymes.
What is the stomata/stoma
It is a pore on the bottom of a leaf that allows carbon dioxide to enter into the plant and a small amount of water and oxygen to leave the plant.
When do normal plants stomatas open and close.
During the day so they can get more sunlight, and they close at nigth
