Unit 3: DNA & Cell Cycle Flashcards
What is anti-parallel?
When the strands run opposite ways (nitrogen bases)
What is the monomer of DNA?
Nucleotides
Where is the location of DNA?
Nucleus
What is the base pairing rule?
A+T C+G
A+G=purines
T+C=pyrimidines
what is chargaffs rule?
The amount of purines must be the same and the amount of pyrimidines must be the same.
checkpoint one
Is the cell big enough? after g1 and before synthesis
checkpoint two
after g2,
enough organelles?
enough DNA?
enough cytoplasm?
checkpoint three
after mitosis
DNA divided correctly?
cytoplasm divided correctly?
what is interphase?
The cells resting phase, consists of G1, G2, S phase, the cell grows and matures and copies chromosomes and replicates DNA
what is prophase
nucleus and nuclear membrane disappear, centrioles move to opposite sides of the cell, spindle fibers begin to stretch, chromosome pairs become visible.
what is metaphase
when the chromosomes meet in the middle and the spindle fibers attach the chromosomes at the centrometer
what is anaphase
chromosome pairs separate, and move to opposite sides of the cell.
what is telephase
two new nuclei are formed and the chromosomes turn into chromatin
what is cytokensis
the cytoplasm separates and two new cells are formed. ( in plants, a new cell wall is formed
which phase of mitosis has the cleavage furrow
telephase
