Unit 4 meiosis Flashcards
What are some similarities between Mitosis and Meiosis?
The have the same basic steps, start with 1 cell, and produce new cells
What are some differences between Mitosis and Meiosis?
Mitosis has 4 stages, somatic cells, and 2 diploid daughter cells.
Meiosis has 8 stages, germ cells, and 4 haploid daughter cells
How does meiosis provide genetic variation in organisms?
Crossing over, independent assortment, and fertilization
What is the difference between haploid cells and diploid cells?
Diploid- 2n, 2 sets, double haploid, somatic cells
Haploid- 1n, 1 set, half a diploid, sex cells
What types of cells are diploid?
Somatic cells
What types of cells are haploid?
Sex cells
If an organism has a diploid number of 30, what is its haploid number?
15
If an organisms has an egg with 44 chromosomes, how many chromosomes would be found in a skin cell?
88
