Unit 3 Flashcards
What are the 3 parts that make up a nucleotide?
Deoxyribose(Sugar Molecule), phosphate provides support and nitrogen bases A,T,C,G.
What bases pair up in DNA?
Adenine-Thymine Guanine-Cytosine
How are chromosomes, DNA, and genes different from each other?
Chromosomes are made of DNA and genes are specific instructions in DNA to carry instructions to make a protein or carry genetics.
If there is a 30% adenine in a sample, what percent guanine would we expect to find?
20%
Make DNA TAC to mRNA
AUG
What happens in translation?
Genetic info is used to make proteins DNA to mRNA
What are the 3 types of mutation?
Insertion, Deletion, Substitution
Insertion
A base is added
Deletion
A base is removed
Substitution
A base is exchanged
How can a protein be affected by a mutation in a gene?
The structure of the protein changes which then causes a mutation that can change the genetics.
