UNIT 4 | Lesson 2 | The Weather Flashcards
Definition of:
Thermal energy transfer
The movement of thermal energy from an area of high temperature to an area of low temperature (second law of thermodynamics)
Definition of:
Conduction
The transfer of thermal energy through the direct contact between particles of a substance (without the particles moving}
Definition of:
Convection
The transfer of thermal energy through the movement of particles from one location to another
Definition of:
Atmospheric pressure
The pressure exerted by the mass of the air above any point of the earth’s surface
What is wind?
The movement of cold air from areas of high pressure to areas of low pressure (think of diffusion)
What is the Coriolis effect?
The deflection of any object (i.e thermal energy) from a straight line path by the rotation of the earth
