Sand Creek Massacre
Col Chivington arrived at fort Lyon and said that the Cheyenne had killed settlers and there could be no peace.
What happened is unclear whether Chivington waved a false flag of truce or caught them totally unaware.
After two days of fighting, between 69-600 Native Americans were brutally murdered including women and children.
Indian Peace Commission
Established by congress which proposed creating two large reservations on the plains, one for the Sioux and another for NA of the southern plains.
