Embora o espaço fosse muito pequeno, ele foi capaz de (ou conseguiu) estacionar lá

Nesse caso não caberia usar “could”
Você precisa conseguir nadar antes de ir de canoa
You need to be able to swim before you can go in a canoe
provavelmente pelo “need” que fica no infinitivo
Eu gosto de poder conversar sem gritar
I like being able to have a conversation without shouting
Like geralmente usa com o gerundio, nesse caso tbm poderia ser o infinitivo
Eu odeio não poder me comunicar com as pessoas
I hate not being able to communicate with people
hate -> gerundio
Estou me sentindo um pouco pior. Você já conseguiu entrar em contato com o médico?
I’m feeling a bit worse. Have you been able to contact the doctor yet?
Meu garotinho não podia / não conseguia falar até os dois anos de idade
