A

The idea that religious beliefs, practices and orginisations are becoming less important in society
Secularisation is a process that happens overtime as the influence of religion weakens
Bryan wilson and steve bruce are philosophers and they believe that religious teachings and orginisations are no longer respected
Fewer people are willing to work in the church
As the world has involved with technology, people are distracted from religion

What is Humanism?

A

Thinkers started to question the authority of the Church and challange its teaching
The idea developed that human goodness and ethics came from human reason rathen then from some external power
“Dare to know!Have courage to use your own reason”
I believe that you should not be hld back from your life, but I believe that you should worship god for what he has done for us
You shouldent be held back from your life just from god, that is not just

How is religous education represented in british schools \ what are the opinions?

A

Religous education is compulsory in all state schools
Schools shouldent force the Christian belief on our kids
Teachers must spread the Christian belief as it was one of Jesus’s last commands
I believe that there should be a medium where religions get taught but not overbearing with rules of prayer that are compulsory for the students, a positive balance

A

Church of Engand is opposed to same sex marriges in church, Roman Cathoic church is opposed to same sex, Anglicans recognise the valididity in civil same sex marrages
Divorce is forbidden in the Catholic Church but its possible to get an annulment -
“Do not lie with a man as you would lie with a woman”

A

its a procedure to cancel a marriage and wipes it out as if it never existed - an annulment cannot happen if the marriage was done by a Catholic priest

A

For Most Christians, euthanasia is wrong as christianity teaches that life is precous and sacred because it was created by God - Murder is forbidden in the 10 commandments
The Roman Catholic Church teaches that the deliverate killing of an innocent human being is always unacceptable morally
The Church of England recognises the importance of personal autonomy or the right to make independent decisions about one’s life

What are opinions on Abortion?

A

Some people believe that s foetus rights should increase as it develops
Others believe tht it is the end of pregnancy and the birth of the baby that marks the beginning of a new life
The catholic church believes abortion is never acceptable
Chrsitians believe that abortion should only be allowed in certain circumstances - same as COE
Christianity teaches that that life begins at contraception (the moment that sperm meets egg) - and that the fertalized egg is a sacred God given life, with the same rights as a baby, child or adult

A

The ROman Catholic Church opposes theraputic cloning - it teaches that life begins at contraception, it sees the embryo that is created for this purpose as a human being
The Church of England is in the middle as they acknowledge the fact that an embryo has the potential to be a human being but they believe that it is not one yet

A

Exclusivism is the view that only one religion is true and that the others are therefore false

The roman catholic church maintains this view on non catholic christian (inter faith exclusivism)

A

Inclusivists believe that christianity is the only true religion but they also believe that non christians can go to heaven
Karl Rahner created the Ananymus Christian, this is someone who isn’t christian but has been given God’s grace, even though they are not aware of it

A

Pluralism rejects the idea that God has revealed himiself only through Jesus christ and that salvation can only be obtained through him - they disagree with exclusivists and Inclusivists
Theres more than one way, more than one idea, more than one religion of the idea of who God is

They maintain the belief that God reveals himself through all the world’s religious traditions and that the Christian faith is just one of Many valid responses to God

A

Inter Faith Dialogue is the differences between the religions of the world can lead to the tensions between them
Inter Faith dialouge isn’t an attempt to remove difference between religions, but rather to understand the differences and respect them, while remaining true to one’s own faith

A

Margrot was a child in Dorset, she didn’t know anyone who hed a different faith from Christianity. Through her Job as an RE teacher, she loved meeting members of the Jewish Community and Local Muslims - she believes inter faith dialougue is important because there are beliefs and values which they share and differences that they need to appreciate

The aims of inter faith dialougue include enabling members of different faiths to form friendships and strengthen social ties

A

Proselytisation is contreversial because there is a fine line between sharing one’s faith with others and imposing it on them.

Agnostics are those people who say it is impossible to know if God exists - they would say that believers have not proved and cannot prove God’s existence, but also believe that aitheists have not proved that he doesn’t exist (in the middle)
