What are roles of Christians in voilent confilics? (why do they go to war)

A

Some christians will join the armed forces in violent conflicts believing that they are bringing peace , and protecting innocent civilians and challenging evil in the world.
Wayne is part of the special forces and believes that god called him there , he sees his role as protecting/defending the weak

What are Christian Belief’s on War?

A

In the sermon on the mount he teaches that the peacemakers are blessed and love your neighbours and your enemies. This makes some christians bqelieve that jesus’ teaching makes it wrong to use violence in any context, from this they look to find peaceful solutions (pacifism).
Church of England -
Against war. Opposed Thatcher on the Falklands war between the UK and argentina.
One may also argue that God’s nature is forgiveness and that you should take revenge.
Pacifists may argue that violence can be okay in some situations, because God used violence in the old testament, such as Sodomon gomorrah when he set fire to it.

A

The first person to die in the bible is Abel, who is murdered by his brother Cain, out of jelousy, it is from cain’s sinful heart that he is punished - murder is forbidden in the Bible

What is Jus ad Bellum?

A

The consideration of wether itt is right to go to war
Aqainus believed that a war would be just if: it was started by the proper authority (goverment), the reason to go to war must be just (to protect people) and everything must be done to make sure good instead of evil resualts from the war
The Catholic church believe that the war must be the last resort and every other way of solving the situation must have been tried

A

Concerns the actions taken within a war, making sure the correct conduct is followed (civillians should not be harmed)

A

Chritian attitudes to behaviour during war are shaped by Jesus’s teachings and the Just war theory, specifically Just In Bello. They are required to have things such as minimising destruction and protecting civilians as priority.
