[Unit 3.8] | The Cell Cycle Flashcards
1
Q
What are the 3 stages of the Cell cycle?
A
• Interphase:
» Occupies most of the cycle.
» Intermission / resting period.
• Nuclear Division: Mitosis/Meiosis
• Cytokinesis: Division of the cytoplasm
2
Q
What 3 stages does interphase consist of?
A
• G1: Growth & signal to divide.
• S: Synthesis of new DNA.
• G2: Further growth & error checking of new DNA.
3
Q
How can cancer be treated using the cell cycle?
A
• Targetting S-Phase to prevent further growth of tumours.
• Inhibiting metaphase by preventing the spindle formation.
4
Q
How do tumour cells form?
A
• Genes that regulate the cell cycle become damaged and therefore cell division is uncontrolled.
