[Unit 3.5] | Cell Specialisation And Organisation Flashcards
What is cell differentiation?
• When cells become specialised to perform certain functions.
What is a tissue?
• A collection of cells performing a similar function.
What are organs?
Collections of tissues that performs a one major function.
What is an organ system?
A collection of organs that interact to perform particular functions.
What are 2 examples of tissues?
• Epithelial Tissue
• Xylem
Name each tissue & their functions within leaves.
• Palisade mesophyll: Made up of palisade cells that carry out photosynthesis.
• Spongy mesophyll: Adapted for gaseous diffusion
• Epidermis: Protects leaf and allows gaseous diffusion
• Phloem: Transports organic materials away from the leaf
• Xylem: Transports water and ions into the leaf.
