Someone who was in debt. This was against the law at the time.
What was the Charter of 1732 and what did it do?
The document signed by George II giving permission to start the colony of Georgia. It outlined the rules of the colony, who would be in charge and the purposes for creating the colony.

– Oglethorpe wanted debtors to colonize GA. Economics – Oglethorpe thought the colonists would produce wine, silk and indigo for England. Defense – GA was going to be a buffer between SC and FL.
What is mercantilism?
England and other European countries created colonies that would produce goods for the mother country. In this way they didn’t have to buy these goods from other countries.
Who were the Trustees and what was their job?
Oglethorpe and 20 others. They were going to manage GA for the first 21 years.

Catholics, because they were afraid these people might help the Spanish in FL

People who were unhappy or unsatisfied with Georgia’s rules. They wanted slavery, the ability to make and sell liquor, more land. They wanted these things so they could make more money.

To build a fort and help defend the colony.
Why did the group of Jewish settlers become so important to the survival of the GA colony?
They had a doctor with them who was an expert in infectious diseases.
When GA became a Royal Colony what changed?
The Trustees were no longer in charge and a Royal Governor took over

Managed/governed the colony after being appointed by the King. Reported back to the King.
