Unit 3- Project Life Cycles Flashcards
What is a Linear Life cycle?
Step-by-step, start to finish life cycle- waterfall approach.
Scope fully developed and baseline before deployment .
Control go no go points between phases.
1- linear V 2- iterative
1 - all requirements upfront
2 - agree project scope and must haves upfront
1-Decide on timeframe based on requirements
2- Decide requirements based on timeframe
1- deliver project at the end of the project life cycle
2- deliver project throughout the project life cycle
1- manage change if it is requested but don’t seek it out
2- Actively seek feedback and more ideas throughout the project
1- document design
2- talk through designs
1- report on progress and decisions
2- report on achievement and decisions
What is a iterative life cycle?
No set number of steps cycles of development/ working in prototype first then adding features (agile)
Evolutionary development , Feedback given at each stage
Short cycle, rely on use feedback for next cycle, time and resource fixed scope and quantity adjusted.
Concept phase
Understand problem opportunity
Gather high-level requirements
Investigate feasibility
Identify the project environment
Identify Stakeholders
Identify preferred solution
Prepare outline for business
Gain approval to proceed
Definition phase
Refined the work
Developed the requirements
To find the scope
Schedule the work
Develop the project cash flow and budget
Produce the department baseline
Produce the project management plan
Deployment
Design stage
Build stage
Procure
Manufacture
Component testing
Prepare benefits realisation
Transition phase
User acceptance testing
Handover to customer
obtain acceptance
Dispose of facilities
Release resource
Finalise contracts and accounts
Archive project document
Undertake post project review
Benefit realisation
Benefits realisation
Discovering new benefits
Sponsor holds benefit realisation review
Benefits sustained throughout operation
Termination
Shut down the operation
Dispose of products
Possibility of a new product
Iterative life cycle steps
Pre project
Feasibility
Foundation phase
Evolutionary phase
Deployment phase
Post project phase
Hybrid Life Cycle
Concept
Definition- involves interactive techniques
Deployment- tranche 1,2,3 ect
Transition
Not one fits all. Hybrid takes the best of both.
