- Dorsal surface of sacrum and coccyx.
- Sacrotuberous ligament.
Gluteus maximus distal attachment
Most: IT band to Gerdy’s Tubercle
Some: gluteal tuberosity
Gluteus maximus innervation
Inferior gluteal nerve
L5, S1, S2
Gluteus maximus action
- Extend hip joint.
- Assist in lateral rotation of hip.
- Flex hip.
Gluteus medius proximal attachment
Ileum between anterior and posterior gluteal lines

Lateral surface of greater trochanter of femur
