Unit 3: Metabolism Flashcards
NAD & NADP : oxidative phosphorylation
Nicotinamide adenine dinicleotides
Redox center is nicotinamide, Comes from B vitamin niacin
NAD is a good electron acceptor since it is mostly in its reduced form.
NADP is a good electron donor since it is mostly in oxidized form.
Catabolism
Fuels are oxidized to CO2 and water, the energy is captured in ATP synthesis and used to do work.
Initially fuels metabolized to acetylcoenzyme A, then turned to CO2 and reduced electron carriers (NADH, FADH2)
Flavine Adenine Dinucleotide (FAD)
Redox center derived by riboflavin
Acetylcoenzyme Aw
